We created our Class Charter together, deciding which ‘Rights of the Child’ were the most relevant to us in school. We then considered what appropriate behaviours were, to enable us all to benefit from these rights. We used ‘minions’ as our signing up to the charter!
As well as earning House Points, in our class you might be awarded with a TEACUP… Tremendous Effort Achieved, Certificate Understandably Presented! Those whose real effort has been recognised with a ‘teacup’, take it home to share with their family, colour it in, cut it out and return it to school, pinning it up on the ‘Teacup Totaliser’. When all 8 spaces are filled, we have a ‘teaparty’ for those 8 children.
We use a range of ‘thinking tools’ in class, including ‘Ryan’s Thinking Keys’ and ‘Bloom’s Taxonomy of the Higher Order Thinking Skills’. We might use them when discussing things with our Talk Partners, who change every week: we sit next to them, so we change seat every week – it keeps things fresh!
