Welcome to primary 1!
Within primary 1, children will get the opportunity to experience a wide range of learning across the curriculum. Our core curricular areas are Maths and Numeracy, English and Literacy and Health and Wellbeing.
This term, in numeracy we will be forming numbers 0 – 10, practicing careful counting forward and backward, clapping and tapping numbers and beginning to recognise number patterns. We will be exploring 2d shapes, including squares, triangles, circles and rectangles. We will be developing our mathemtical language by using ‘bigger’ and ‘smaller’ to describe items.
In literacy this term, we will be beginning to form letters and recognise sounds. We will begin reading our first tricky words – which are words that are not easy to sound out! We will be introduced to the characters of Biff, Chip and Kipper as we begin to read some books of our own.
Our first topic is ‘Myself and My School’, and we will be learning about the people that help us within the school, important places in the school and sharing information about ourselves.
In health and wellbeing we will be learning about keeping our bodies healthy and understanding our own emotions. In P.E. we will be learning how to travel safely in our space bubbles!
Throughout the year, children will explore the other curricular areas through a number of activities, including topic based tasks.
